Sir
A week ago I was at a popular petrol station in Dundee when a man and a woman came walking by, both in absolute crisis.
It was obvious that they were both heavily under the influence of some kind of substance, absolute skin and bone, filthy and dirty.
I approached them to help them and had to pull up the young woman’s pants as neither her nor the man were capable of doing so in the state they were in.
I tried to give them money to help them because they seemed to really be in a desperate situation; they were starving. They didn’t even comprehend that the money could help them, or even acknowledge it at all. In my desperation to help in a situation where I truly believed these people may die, I phoned
Carol at the Crisis Centre and she told me to bring them to her there, where her staff quickly took control of the situation and intervened in the most amazing way and, I believe, saved those people’s lives.
In light of this, and many other times, Carol and her staff at the Crisis Centre have cared for helpless women and children in our town. I am, and we should all be, truly grateful for this amazing level of commitment and compassion. It is perceived among some in the community that the Crisis Centre is not in need of help as many think they have all the funds necessary to look after these people but, from my experience, that is not the case.
They undoubtedly do the best they possibly can with the resources they have to work with, and I just want to emphasise how blessed we are, and how grateful I was in that situation, to be able to go to them in such a predicament and be assured that there is someone in our community who will selflessly and lovingly help those in need.
I would like to say a huge thank you to Carol and her staff, you are truly amazing.
A grateful Dundonian
