Editor – As someone who was not born and bred in Ladysmith, I felt I needed to write something to the community.
I grew up in the hustle and bustle of the city, yet since I’ve lived here (it’s been close to 10 years now), I must say that I do not consider myself much of a “city girl” anymore. However, I’m not yet a “plaasmeisie” or “kleindorpie-poppie” either.
I can honestly say I have fallen in love with this town.
The way of life is so relaxed and when you get home from a long day of work, you can escape because the town is so peaceful.
Many of my friends can tell you that I’ve often said I don’t see myself living here for a long time, but the moment I leave for any reason, I miss this place terribly. It’s almost as if a piece of my heart was left at home.
Although many people complain that there is nothing much to do in this town, I tend to disagree. If you find the right type of people to hang out with, you can have the best times. I would know, because I have met some pretty amazing people and I didn’t even need to look too hard.
This town feels like a close-knit family to me. They have helped me and my loved ones through many trials and tribulations, and Ladysmith will always be my home.
So, as a young member of the Ladysmith community, I stand up and say that Ladysmith is my home. I will always have a special place in my heart for this small town and the people in it, no matter where I go in life.
