Holiday destruction must end

The holidays offer you the opportunity to do so much good with your time, why waste it on destruction.

Madam –

School holidays are upon us and it seems it has brought out the worst in some of Newcastle’s youth.

I live in Amiel Park and Fort Amiel Museum and a church in the suburb was targeted by an unruly group of youngsters.

The reason I say it was youngsters, as who else would be as juvenile as teenage hooligans without anything to occupy their time.

I find it sad that the culprits would target a religious and a historical building. Do they have so little respect for those around them? Do they not respect anyone or anything?

I don’t know who is too blame for their behaviour, do they come from bad families? Do their parents not care enough that the only attention they can find is from the negativity of bad behaviour? Or, are they spoiled children who are used to getting their own way?

Maybe, they were just bored, which is worse as they had no actual reason for their acts.

Either way, I am appealing to the youngsters, look at yourselves. Do you really want to be the type of person who destroys things? If so, I pity you as you must lead a sad life, one empty of true joy.

Instead of destroying things, why don’t you go out and get a part time job? Find a hobby where you can create something? Do volunteer work at a charity organisation, maybe spend some time at the library.

The holidays offer you the opportunity to do so much good with your time, why waste it on destruction.
