Sir
Regarding the event that took place on Saturday, June 25 at Kallies Stadium in Old Acre Street, we, the residents of Dundee, would like to lay a formal complaint that this kind of rowdiness until 6am is totally unacceptable!
We are business owners, doctors, lawyers, teachers, health care professionals, journalists and accountants and we have rights! As taxpayers and ratepayers and significant contributors to this country’s economy and specifically this town’s, we will not accept or tolerate this kind of nuisance. Whatever the occasion was, it could have been taken elsewhere, and NOT in a residential area!! We have babies and children, who were restless from the racket. We could not sleep because of the incredibly loud noise! And for some of us, it is the holy month of Ramadaan…a time of fasting and a time of peace.

This noisy “celebration” displayed inconsideration and disrespect and we will NOT tolerate it anymore!
This is not the first time that this has transpired either! We have just shut our mouths previously, but it’s time to take a stand! The racket could be heard in areas as far as Penn Symons Street and upper Victoria Street, close to the hospital. Some people’s prayers in Gladstone and Willson Streets were also disturbed!
As a municipality, you need to take a stand in respecting the rights of ALL of Dundee’s citizens. Tell the party goers to find a secluded area on a farm somewhere and to take their annoying parties there – where we cannot be disturbed by it!
While we are at it, we also need to complain about the late-night parties held in the park in Coronation Street (near the hospital).

This is also a disturbance and something needs to be done about it! Do not let it continue, as it is inciting anger and hatred within us! Send SAPS patrols to disperse the noisemakers, who should party in their own homes, so as not to be a nuisance to residents. Do something!
As for our municipality, we are relying on you to take control of this town! Don’t be a spineless, useless entity, which continues to collect our hard-earned money, but refuses to protect us or respect our rights!! It’s time to stand up! This is OUR town too and we WILL have our say!
Signed by residents who live in the vicinity of the Kallies Stadium

Acting Municipal Manager, MZ Silinga, responded:
Endumeni Municipality has a Section 4 committee which authorises events of this magnitude and this committee also includes colleagues from the South African Police Services. The processes of hosting such an event were followed and thereafter approved by the committee.
This was not the first event in that stadium and it will not be the last. We would like to encourage the spirit of tolerance amongst Endumeni residents because not so long ago in the same stadium there was a fun fair which lasted for three days but no complaints were brought forward.

We also encourage the community to be patient with one another and allow the rest of the community to utilise the facilities as they are ratepayers too. We, however, must apologise for the inconvenience caused.
