Letter to the editor: A true hero

Reading the article about Jan-Henk van Vuuren in last week's Advertiser, made me feel proud to be a Newcastillian.

Madam

Reading the article about Jan-Henk van Vuuren in last week’s Advertiser, made me feel proud to be a Newcastillian.

I believe we have some the best medics in the world, and how privileged we are to say most of them are from Newcastle.

These men and women dedicate their lives to helping others, and they go above and beyond to ensure we ‘arrive alive’. They are definitely worthy of the super-hero badge.

I can only imagine how traumatising it must be to witness all they do on a daily basis. How they don’t crack under pressure, I would never know.

I take my hat off to men like Mr van Vuuren, who is on the road for hours on end, and still manages to balance his career with a healthy, happy life at home, with his fiancée and daughter.

I would personally like to thank Mr van Vuuren for his hard work and dedication, as we can rest assured knowing someone of his calibre is to the rescue.

We, as a town, can thank our lucky stars for the privilege and honour of being able to call Jan-Henk van Vuuren one of our very own heroes.

At Caxton, every story is written by humans. We use AI only to perform quality checks - never to generate the news. Happy reading!
