When will we learn speed kills?

I don't want to point fingers, but it seems most of these incidents have been due to reckless driving and speeding.

-Madam-

Over the past few weeks I have noticed there have been a lot of collisions in Newcastle and surrounding areas. I don’t want to point fingers, but it seems most of these incidents have been due to reckless driving and speeding.

I am a mother of two, and I panic with every car trip we take. I am always alert and feel I have to think for the next driver as well as for myself when on the road.

It sickens me, knowing that there are so many drivers out there who have absolutely no respect for the lives of other drivers. I don’t know how many times I have nearly been involved in a collision because some people are driving like maniacs. How do you go to bed, knowing you have claimed a life because of the ‘don’t care’ attitude you drive around with?

Our roads are not there for racing!

Then there are the drunken drivers, showing even less remorse for their actions. If you are going to get sloshed, rather stay at home or have a sober person drive you home. For those who are not aware of this, one may phone the SAPS and request an official to drive you home when you are drunk.

I can never imagine climbing into my car with the intention of breaking the law or endangering the lives of others. Hopefully one day motorists will realise just how much damage their actions can cause, and start being more careful and vigilant.
