Sir
The issue of housing to deserving local residents has become a highly controversial matter.
We, together with scores of others, are extremely disturbed to note that the manner in which this matter is dealt with is highly politicised.
It is noted that over the last few days individuals from Forestdale were invited selectively, as apparent, to the municipal offices to complete/sign documents as beneficiaries of houses. The calls were effected via SMS’s to individuals at the exclusion of many others who had applied and waited over the years with intermittent promises.
One does not have to be a rocket scientist to determine the actual motive behind such a tactical move just days before the election.
We recall that a similar move was made in the past just before elections when a few title deeds were handed out in Forestdale, to the utter disappointment of others who were isolated.
The applicants are made to believe that the provision of houses has suddenly become imminent. The meetings and discussions on housing have been ongoing for years and will go on for a long time yet.
Our advice to those who are called via SMS’s – by all means go and complete the forms, then wait and wait and wait. At least your submission will be on record. We await anxiously to observe the final list of beneficiaries. As of now, we see the operation as discriminatory and preferential.
Signed by four residents of Ward 6
