I am shocked and disappointed to read about the two Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) members who were killed in cold-blood last week. (Estcourt News – IFP members gunned down – page 1, July 29).
I feel exactly as the IFP MPL does, this type of behaviour hinders development and takes us back to a time when politics was a deadly game, especially if you disagreed with others.
For many years Estcourt and Umtshezi, as a whole, was looked upon as an area of political intolerance and murders. Since those dark days, we have made great strides with political maturity but last week’s killings, makes one wonder if political tolerance is just something we speak about and not necessarily feel.
As we go to the polls tomorrow, I encourage my fellow South Africans to respect each other, our choices and our opinions. Our forefathers have fought a great fight to achieve this democracy, independence and freedom.
