Sir
Eskom wishes to warn the public about a scam where a criminal element is pretending to be Eskom and claiming that Eskom has changed its banking account to Nedbank, and subsequently provides those banking details.
The fraudsters use letters, faxes and emails bearing the Eskom logo and the forged signature of Eskom’s Group Chief Executive, Brian Molefe.
They have also forged Nedbank banking details. Eskom customers are asked to take note that Eskom does not have a banking account with Nedbank and that Eskom would never send notifications to its customers in this manner.
Eskom’s banking details appear on customer’s electricity bill and, if in doubt, please contact the Eskom Customer Call Centre on 08600 37566 for verification.
To report incidents of fraud, corruption and irregularities involving Eskom, members of the public are requested to call Eskom’s crime line on 0800 11 27 22 or email investigate@eskom.co.za to report the incident.
