I am so disgusted by the Connor Street Clinic that words cannot describe it.
Your baby gets sick overnight and you go to the clinic for help, you are there at 6.30am and then get told by the REGISTERED SISTER (rather name withheld but I did obtain it) that: “sorry you must wait the whole day because you do not have an appointment.”
What a load of Tommy rot if I have ever heard it. So now mothers are supposed to schedule with health care workers for when their children should get sick? Come on man, please wake up even someone who does not have a matric knows that NO ONE and I mean NO ONE knows when they are going to get sick.
The attitude was appalling, the baby comes in with his mother and you can see the baby is sick, it has gunk seeping out his eyes and you can hear from quite a distance away that the child has something wrong with his chest and nose. Yet, “sorry mommy you have to wait the whole day because you do not have an appointment,” wake up idiotic supposed RN, this baby takes preference over the healthy ones who are just coming in for their injections. Needless to say low and behold when the mother has something to say she gets told: “If you don’t like it then leave.” I am sorry but something has to be done about this attitude.
This so called RN who took an oath when becoming a nurse should know better than to treat any person like this, let alone a young mother with a very young baby. What if that baby has to have something really bad go wrong with him whilst waiting? Who is to blame then?
Bet you not the “clever” RN, no of course not. I am seething with how this mother and her baby were treated and needless to say as I write this email to you, it is now 11.45am and they are still sitting and waiting.
These people need to realise they are not God and they do not determine who gets a chance and who has to wait. If someone is sick and it can be seen from a very obvious standpoint then sorry that person (young or old) should be seen to first. I will be reporting not only this clinic but also this particular Registered Nurse to the Department of Health. I will not stop there if I do not get satisfactory results as I am so appalled at what I have witnessed today.
Also just like to add, I have no affiliation whatsoever to the young lady and her baby. I just felt so sorry for her. I really wanted to kung-fu that nurse.
Disgusted Estcourt Resident
It is unfortunate that such an incident was witnessed within the facility. I would like to assure residents that the management is doing its utmost best to root out bad staff attitude and further urge them to report incidents of this nature, so that they can be dealt with decisively. Complaints are to be reported to the Manager of the clinic and if one is not satisfied with the outcome, she/he is more than welcome to escalate it to the Public Relations Officer, Zandile Gamede at the hospital on 036 342 7000. I kindly request this resident to come forward and report this matter, so that it can be addressed accordingly.
