Strikes and riots are a student’s lot in life?

Why is it such a big thing to need to leave town and go to university straight out of high school?

Editor – As a young person in this small town, I thought it would be best to write about the obvious situation that appears to be a “White Elephant” in the room. I am one of a few friends who has decided to stay in town and continue my studies from home, while working full-time.

It’s not easy, I’ll tell you that, but it’s worth it – absolutely worth it!

I just have one question.. Why is it such a big thing to need to leave town and go to university straight out of high school?

Yes, I know many believe that you won’t really get far without any further training or some sort of Higher Education Certificate, and perhaps this is true when looking for a job, but if you look at the situation of all the striking and riots at universities across the country, it’s frightening to think about what will happen in two or three years’ time.

I’ve often said to friends and family that I wish I could have gone and studied and partied my life away, while my parents sat at home struggling to pay for all my fees and textbooks, but looking back on it, I’ve learned that staying was the better option for me.
Yes, I’m still living at home with my parents, and I still have chores and things I need to do, but learning how to manage my time and money and learning how to work with different people on a daily basis has taught and is still teaching me many life lessons that varsity never could.

I firmly believe that if you aren’t going to bed having learned something new, then that was a day wasted.
