Sir
What is happening in our universities is not protest anymore but war between students, police and private security.
Everything has turned brutal.
Universities are closed while security is beefed up to manhandle the situation.
But the question is, where are we going as a country? What kind of a tomorrow are we going to have when we allow the students’ future gets destroyed?
Our universities have turned into battle fields, and students are treated like criminals.
Congress of the People is calling upon the Government to deal with the situation as a matter of urgency before its too late; very soon children are going to be killed. We don’t wish for repeats of 1976. COPE says government should safeguard the universities and end the situation by sitting down with the students and addressing their concerns.
We cannot allow this mayhem to continue.
The government should have known that things like these are going to happen when it raised students’ hopes.
Who is to be blamed now? COPE will never agree or promote violence in any form; from the side of the students as well as of the security forces, violence must be condemned.
We urge students not to turn violent; this is not a good way to achieve their goals.
Dennis Bloem
