Civic Association dismayed by release of incomplete housing list

The struggle to restore the dignity of all victims suppressed and robbed by unscrupulous landlords and corrupt officials goes on.

Sir
The lists demanded by The Endumeni Civic Association from The Department of Human Settlements and the Endumeni municipality has been released after our attorneys wrote them a letter of intent to take the matter to a court of law.
We note with dismay the incomplete, incompatible and non-comprehensive lists which is a proof of a lack of transparency, accountability and good governance. We are obliged to explore the court route in order to acquire the required lists. We had meetings with Human Settlements and the Endumeni Council requesting the following lists:
(a) We requested to be furnished with lists of all applicants for buffer strip or section 20 and 19 RDP housing in Sibongile.
(b) The lists of all approved applicants.
(c) The lists of all disapproved applicants and the reasons thereof.
(d) The lists of all applicants whom were invited through SMSs.
We requested all the above lists to be coupled with the residential addresses and proof of residence of all applicants.
The unfortunate part is they failed to furnish us with a comprehensive, complete and compatible list.
Social justice can only be attained when accountability, transparency, good governance and ethics prevails. Elderly citizens, the poorest of the poor, workers, the unemployed, informal settlement residents and all deserving applicants want to exercise public scrutiny in order to expose any element of corruption, nepotism, cronyism, maladministration and bad governance as means to deepen democracy and developmental governance. The struggle to restore the dignity of all victims suppressed and robbed by unscrupulous landlords and corrupt officials goes on.
