Resident questions service delivery

This leak has been on-going for a month now at the rate of about twenty litres per minute

Who are Sipho and Mdu? These are the two people who I was told to contact at Uthukela regarding a water leakage outside my shop.

This leak has been on-going for a month now at the rate of about twenty litres per minute! I have phoned these gentlemen a number of times but nothing has been done.

Uthukela employees come to my shop, I show them the leak, and they just laugh, walk away, and say “phone Mdu or Sipho”. The ‘temporary taxi rank’ behind the Nedbank building and the ally way leading to it are areas where there is no attempt to clean up the refuse.

There again I have phoned the Planning, Economics and Community Services (PECS) department asking that something be done. Whilst there, I would like to bring up the subject of the vagrants that live in our town.

I fully sympathise with their plight but, why do they empty rubbish bins at night and start fires where ever they see fit? Is there no institution that can assist these people? Just stop and have a look down that ally and tell me if I am perhaps over exaggerating.

I am glad to see that the rubble outside the front of the old municipal building has been removed. Now, how about giving the building’s window frames and facia boards a coat of paint? I thought that the last municipal elections had given everyone a wakeup call regarding service delivery? If you can’t do it, you will get voted out.
