Madam – Time to introspect.
It’s with great sadness that our town is facing financial challenges after being ranked as one of the best in KZN for many years under our previous mayor.
The main reason of this letter is not to defend who is or was at fault, but this storm we are in was created by man and not God. As a resident who enjoys purchasing the Advertiser weekly, I would also like to have my say just like anonymous residents have done so in the past weeks.

The downside of revealing the financial constraints will have devastating consequences on us as residents, when we require basic service delivery. Municipal officials can without fear or favour say “we don’t have money to repair the burst pipe down the road or cut the long grass that’s promoting house break-ins ”.
It is always good to be honest and give people hope of a better tomorrow, but what really confuses me is that Mayor Makosini said in the IDP Roadshows that we never needed that tower block and it’s the main reason we are in a financial “storm”.
This is the very same mayor we have today who was part and parcel of the municipality before he left in 2015 to represent in Legislature. He was the Head of Legal Services. He could have advised Council differently, or was the sea rough at that time and that’s why he left? The tower building was not built after he left the municipality in 2015.
As the captain of a sinking ship in rough seas I would have expected our mayor to have been more cautious of exposing the current financial state of the municipality. If we look back from where we are coming to where we are going, I can openly and honestly say this town needs “Mr. Service Delivery” back. Our financial status was never exposed, yet the town was one of the best in KZN.
Good to be Honest
