IFP calls for independent investigation into killings

Since it is alleged that police officers were involved in the killing of the five family members, we are of the view that leaving the investigation in the hands of IPID will not guarantee neutrality and a fair outcome

The Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) in KwaZulu-Natal calls upon the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) to enlist the services of an independent senior pathologist to investigate the killing of five members of the Kubheka family who were shot execution-style in Umtshezi allegedly by police officers.

These killings took place over four days ago but the grieving Kubheka family have not been allowed to see the bodies of their loved ones.

Since it is alleged that police officers were involved in the killing of the five family members, we are of the view that leaving the investigation in the hands of IPID will not guarantee neutrality and a fair outcome. In order to get to the bottom of the killings, it is imperative that the investigation be conducted by persons who will not be biased.

For the sake of the families of the deceased we are calling for an independent senior pathologist to conduct the investigations and produce a report on the findings.

In the interest of justice there should be no stone left unturned to find the killers and bring them to book. In the past we were told that certain investigations were being conducted but we never got any progress reports and those cases are still unresolved.

We would not like to see the same fate being visited upon the Kubheka family and the community of Umtshezi or any other community. Since five members of one family have been mercilessly slaughtered, it is imperative that justice is seen to be done.

This can only happen if there is an independent senior pathologist involved in the investigations. In the interest of justice and in order for the grieving Kubheka family to get closure, our call is for the Head of IPID to appoint an independent senior pathologist to assist with the investigations.
