Editor – Two suspects were released on R1000 bail each after they attempted to rape a young girl “straight”.
This is totally shocking in this day and age that people actually believe they can help a person by raping them.
The tragedy here is twofold: one that it occurred and two that the two suspects were released on bail.
The girl is only 17 years old. It is sickening to think that people think that one sin can be fixed by another. And when I refer to being gay as a sin, I am putting myself in the shoes of the accused. To seriously believe the girl could be raped “straight” is frightening.
To think that what you are doing is okay is even worse.
I hope and pray the court treats this case as any other rape case and does not allow the spectres of this country’s homophobic past to interfere with justice being done. It really should not matter that she is a lesbian.
What should matter is that she is a young girl approaching womanhood who has repeatedly been abused not just physically but by the justice system.
Let justice be done and let it be swift and severe.
Being homosexual, bisexual or just curious should not be a crime.
