Editor – The beautiful town of Ladysmith is in ruins thanks to the “honourable mayor” and his team.
Just to name a few aspects and incidents…
1. The unattended area on Main Road. It has been almost a year since one side of the road was dug up.
Nothing has been done despite attempts by councillors and the media.
2. The long grass on vacant municipal lands that is a health hazard and a breeding ground for mosquitoes and snakes.
3. Kindly look at the potholes in the Acaciavale area (namely Viola and Freesia Road, to name a couple).
4. Lupin Avenue has been tarred, but the tar is so high that water stands in Willow and Rose Terrace.
5. Almost three weeks ago, the power box in Lupin Avenue failed. Two young electricians came by with “cell-phones” as torches. It was raining heavily and as the box is situated near my house, I mentioned to my wife that “the box is going to blow up” and before I could wink an eye, it did blow up. The “electrician”, whether qualified or not, jumped clear of the explosion. I ran to his aid and enquired if he was hurt.
I made numerous calls to the fire department, Protection Services and ambulance services, and not one of these answered my calls. Eventually, another “qualified and experienced” electrician, whom I know, resolved the mess-up.
6. Two streetlights in Lupin Avenue have fused. When I complained, their answer was that the hoist truck is broken.
How long does it take to sort out this truck, or are we waiting for a crime to occur?
7. Today (being Monday, February 19, and our usual day for refuse removal), refuse bags still lie on the pavements of Acaciavale, with heavy rains coming down. Who is going to clean up the mess?
8. There are plenty more issues and I have been to the councillor of our ward. I’ve never met with her, but she has a “PA” and I relayed my message into her diary.
PS: Is this councillor privileged, as her boards are still hanging on poles?
Readers, we need your support to bring this town back to the Ladysmith we knew. Support by adding this letter in your area. My praises to the past mayor, Dudu Mazibuko, who kept this town in a spick and span condition.
