Put yourself in the educator’s shoes

As a learner, you have to make sure your mind set is of a mature adult and think of the so-called 'insult' as medicine to cure your behaviour

I would like to respond to the letter “Educator behaviour scorned on by a parent” (Estcourt News, March 16, page 6).

READ THE LETTER HERE: Educator behaviour at Drakensberg Secondary School scorned on by a parent

I am a current learner of Drakensberg Secondary School (DSS). Yes, I do understand that the learner-teacher relationship has to work in good conjunction but have we all taken into the consideration the struggle that educators have to bear?

No, I am not an educator but just a mere learner but we have to realise the frustration that educators go through.
I can personally vouch as a RCL representative of my class that I have dealt with numerous complaints about our fellow educators.

With deep ruminations and thorough analysis, I have come to a conclusion that it really takes two hands to clap. Educators are daily straining their voices against 25-40 defiant students. To be honest, as a learner, I have also had the struggle of this misunderstanding.

What do you expect to achieve with no respect? I totally agree with this piece, as I respect other individual’s opinions but there is a way to carry out a strategy and to implement it and inevitably get a solution.
The problem is that there is a lack of understanding.

No, I am not a high flyer, just an average learner. So to everyone, look at it from an educator’s perspective. Coming from me as learner, I understand the situation.

I write this with no means in conflict with other’s opinions but with a resolution to find a solution. Also bad mouthing a school via the media is not ethical; we should try to go to the school to mend the lack of communication. As a parent you will do anything for your child.
