Where are our lights?

Now I ask you – what is happening to the money that we pay each month for our accounts?

I have seen in the last month or so that most of the residential areas in Estcourt no longer have street lights.

What is going on? I would like to know because I have hear rumours that Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality owes Eskom more than a few MILLION RAND in outstanding electricity accounts.

Now I ask you – what is happening to the money that we pay each month for our accounts?
And what is going to happen to us when Eskom decides that the municipality now has to pay up and they do not have our money anymore.

In response to your statement that most of the residential areas in Estcourt no longer have streetlights, it is not correctly so.

Unfortunately the residential areas that you have mentioned, have not been reported to us. The municipality endeavours to attend to all areas that don’t have streetlights timeously. However, we will be ready to assist once the areas are reported to us.

The challenge that we currently have is the unavailability of the cherry picker, which is used to fix streetlights. It went for repairs and is currently being fixed.

As soon as it is fixed and back on the road, it will assist in fixing some of the streetlights that have been reported. We are addressing issues with Eskom and currently have a payment plan that the municipality will follow that has been agreed to by all parties.

We sincerely apologise to the members of public for the inconvenience caused while the bucket truck is being repaired.
