Madam – “Spring has sprung the grass is riz, tell me where all the birdies iz.”
My apologies for the phonetic spelling of rise and is, but the feel of the rhyming line makes it easier to pronounce.
Away with all the woollies and out with the summer pjs and bikinis!
Now is the season for our South African traditional outdoor activities like the braai and pool parties, not forgetting the necessity of keeping the garden under control.
My am I ecstatic about the fact that winter has finally taken leave of us and gone into hibernation until next year, so let us make the most of this happy time.
I bet lots of young couples are now counting their blessings in preparation for their respective nuptials and are considering that their day of joy will be warm and sunny.
Summer fashion in our many Newcastle shops will now start to fly off the shelf, as young people begin to vie for attention in the latest clothes.
My Newcastle will also get a new look with the streets and parks greening up even before the first of the cycle of summer rains.
Then of course we will be wary of deluges as the rising waters could complicate life, but now we must sit back, open a frosty and enjoy this summertime.
As Mungo Jerry sang: “In the summertime when the weather is hot, you can stretch right up and touch the sky”.
Now is our time to reach for the sky, and realise that our learners are now in the final stretch of their school year, so make the most of this holiday then it is shoulder to the wheel.
