Editor – Re: Old meter or prepaid is still a rip-off.
I don’t see the reason for Alfred Duma Local Municipality charging us, the community, an extra R100 on our electricity account.
Your meter readers could never read or write, so how come all of a sudden, out of the blue, I must now pay an extra R100? For what?
Who is benefiting from this R100?
It’s daylight robbery, I tell you!
The prepaid system is only good if you reside in a location. Why? Spend R50 for prepaid and it can last you for two weeks. But not here in town. R50 for prepaid would not even last two days in town. That’s a bigger rip-off!
Is this municipality now looking for quick cash to pocket?
We are frustrated and angry because money does not grow on trees, Mr Siyabonga Maphalala.
In towns like Estcourt, Vryheid, Harrismith and Newcastle, consumers with prepaid meters get more units for R100 than us citizens in Ladysmith.
At the time of going to press, Alfred Duma Local Municipality had not responded to this letter, which was sent to them for comment.
