Madam – There’s always time to begin again.
With the arrival of a warmer season, with the trees and plants blooming in their floral glory, I believe we as people should also look at ways to renew and revitalise our lives.
Call it a spring cleaning of the soul, if you would.
If you’ve done wrong by your friend, family or even business colleagues, there will always be time to seek regress and make up for all the ugliness.
Few actions in life are unforgivable.
Likewise, if someone has done you wrong, better you forgive and move on with life, then hold onto anger and poison your own being.
Use the example of the two young men, abandoned by their father.
One of the young men uses his father’s example as a guideline for himself, never allowing himself to make the same mistakes and hurt his children the way his father did.
The other holds on to his resentment and hatred.
In time however, he finds his life has in fact been shaped by his father, against his will, by virtue of his being unable to forgive and simply move forward.
I believe a notable Buddhist quote sums it up quite well: “Holding on to anger is like grasping a hot coal with the intent of throwing it at someone else; you are the one who gets burned.”
Let’s all release the hatred, resentment and bitterness we have inside, whatever the circumstance, and seek a brighter tomorrow free of yesterday’s baggage.
