The 2018 edition of the only 24-hour Relay for Life in South Africa has come and gone. Even the inclement weather didn’t deter the many people from supporting the Relay.

Even during the violent thunderstorm, Relayers showed their determination to show cancer we they were not afraid and that cancer can be destroyed.
At a presentation function held at Forderville Primary School on September 19, Event Chair Mr Anil Sookraj thanked all stakeholders for an awesome Relay.
Testimonies from locals and ‘out-of-towners’ point to those attending having had an unforgettable relay experience.
Some interesting facts about 2018 Relay for Life:
Five teams from out of town.
Highest fundraiser Mrs P. Naidoo from Verulam (R62 000) Mrs Michelle Chinnu (R32 500) from Pietermaritzburg).
Highest individual sponsor R50 000 from Gauteng. Al-Imdaad Foundation has sponsored this event for nine years.
Team fundraising- first Naidoo family, second Colita Cricket Club, third Pick n Pay Estcourt, fourth Macksons Supermarket and fifth Drakensview Primary School.

2 800 Relayers walked the track and 35 teams participated.
102 units of life-saving blood were collected by the South African National Blood Service.
Macksons Bakery baked the birthday cake for nine years in a row.
75 survivors were pampered.
Rain, sleet, snow and icy cold weather did not dampen spirit of the Relay.
An income and expenditure statement was presented and the finances were discussed and adopted.
R140 000 was donated to the Cancer Association of South Africa and R10 000 to Estcourt Hospice Association. R50 000 was paid as expenses for security, tents, chairs, catering, sound, trophies and golf shirts.
Certificates were awarded to the many donors and sponsors of the Relay.
