Relayers are the heroes in Estcourt

I especially enjoyed being part of the Casper Slide and the fireworks display was amazing

Even though the 2018 CanSA Relay for Life has come and gone, there are many fond memories that we are holding on to.

I would like, through the medium of the newspaper, to congratulate Event Chair Anil Sookraj and his dedicated team of committee members who pulled off another highly successful Relay.

Being part of this mammoth movement was inexplicable. Even though the weather was depressing and it was bitterly cold, I think that the warm spirit from everyone who participated in the 24-hour Relay made it tolerable.

I especially enjoyed being part of the Casper Slide and the fireworks display was amazing. The fact that Estcourt raised R140 000 goes to show that our town is dedicated to supporting cancer awareness and education and what better way to do so than a community event?

I was also glad to read in last week’s paper that Mr Sookraj will be donating a portion of the funds to Estcourt Hospice Association and also as a bonus to the hardworking caregivers.

Being a caregiver is a selfless job, it requires patience and commitment, and I think that Mr Sookraj’s gesture will be a treat for all our caregivers.

Lastly, I would like to say WELL DONE to the Estcourt community and visitors who whole-heartedly support the Relay for Life each year. You are the real heroes.
