Uthukela meets with the pensioners and unemployed residents

Many residents voiced their dissatisfaction with the short notice they were given. People were notified via loudspeaker on Friday at about 7.30pm

A meeting was held on Sunday by Uthukela District Municipality at the Papkuilsfontein Hall. The purpose was to assist the unemployed homeowners and pensioners to apply for ‘indigent’ water.

A staff member from Uthukela explained the reason for the meeting. The residents were then asked if they understood and if there were any questions. Many residents voiced their dissatisfaction with the short notice they were given.
People were notified via loudspeaker on Friday at about 7.30pm.

Many were unable to get all their documents in order as was required.

The elderly became anxious regarding their documentation. However, the efficient staff from the Finance Department consisting of Ms Zama Swazi, Nosimpilo Miya and Nonjabulo Hlela assisted each resident and in a short space of time, everybody was helped.

For those who did not come with all the relevant documents, arrangements were made for the paperwork to be completed and dropped off at the local Uthukela office, which will then be sent to Ladysmith to process.

The local Ward Councillor was also present to welcome people and explain the purpose of the meeting.
