LETTER – Taipoosam Kavady – Dundee Hindu Temple expresses appreciation

The Dundee Hindu Temple Kavady Festival 2019 has been a resounding success with devotees from Dundee, surrounding areas and as far as Johannesburg and Durban gracing the function. The function is only complete when the people responsible for the success of the Kavady festival have been thanked.

On behalf of the Dundee Hindu Temple, I wish to express our gratitude and appreciation to all sponsors and donors who have so willingly and generously contributed to our Kavady festival held from January 18 to 27.
We also want to thank all the hard workers who selflessly availed themselves to assist in this massive undertaking. Also our sincere gratitude and appreciation to: The Northern Natal Courier for the media coverage given to us.

The Endumeni Municipality for their support and assistance for cleaning and general maintenance of the roads and pavements around the vicinity of the temple and along the Kavady procession route.
The traffic officers from the Department of Safety and Security who monitored and assisted with traffic control during the two chariot processions.
The draw of the raffle held to raise funds for the Kavady festival was held on Sunday, January 27 and the prizes were won by:
• 1st prize – a Defy 20L Microwave Oven sponsored by Rashalin Govender of Dundee was won by Sim’s Marquees of Dundee. 
• 2nd prize – a Safeway Lightweight Hairdryer sponsored by Mr and Mrs Yogan Soobramoney of Dundee was won by Naresh Gopie of Dundee. 
• 3rd prize – a Mellerware Toaster sponsored by Mr and Mrs J R Naidoo of Pietermaritzburg was won by G Nair of Dundee. 
• 4th prize – Avon gift set donated by Preny Rambali was won by S. Orie of Glencoe. 

We also awarded motivational prizes for:
• Highest value of tickets sold – won by Naresh Shrikrishan. 
• A fruit hamper sponsored by Neelam Kailas of Newcastle and a chocolate hamper sponsored by the Siva Subramanian Bhajan group of Newcastle was awarded to the children who sold the highest number of tickets.
