I would firstly like to thank Sonja Vorster for letting the news out about how frustrating the Department of Labour is!

I’ve had an extremely difficult experience with them as I am on maternity leave and had to claim for Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF).

First, you have to wait almost four hours to collect forms and no one explains what exactly you should do. Secondly, you have to now wait another four hours to submit them.

I had been there five times to the Department of Labour and came out in tears at once. The people that work there sent me back three times after waiting long hours with different issues and could not look at all my documents at once and tell me what exactly is incorrect.

To top it all, I had to go and change my surname just to receive my UIF and that too was another long wait.
Here you are grasping as a new mother and have to run around getting documents signed and changing your surname just for them to accept all your information, I plead to the department to look into this matter as it really puts a strain on many people’s lives.

I am now heading off to work and received my payment after four months and still have to go back for the second payment to get processed. This is very unfair and ridiculous.
