Poor leadership leading to retrenchments at Inkosi Langalibalele Municipality

There are reports that are circulating in the corridors of Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality (in terms of the workshop in the Wembezi Multipurpose Centre) that the municipality in in a process of retrenching 289 of its employees and the reason cited thereof is that the institution is in dire financial state.

The undisputed fact is that Estcourt is faced with high levels of unemployment, poverty and inequality where one out four people is unemployed.

It’s unfortunate that the leadership of the municipality has forgotten the socio-economic conditions that out communities are faced with and there is no desire and commitment to serve people.

The municipal financial position is as a result of poor planning, financial irregularities, corruption and poor decisive leadership to play an oversight role from those who were given a mandate to lead this municipality and therefore employees should not be scapegoats and carry the burden and pains such consequences.

It is noted with concern that waste has not been collected and this has caused overflowing bins in our town and residential areas, yet residents are charged for waste removal. The current state of our town and surrounding townships is in a mess and people from Loskop, Ntabamhlophe, Hlathikhulu and Weenen have no water, which is a constitutional right.
