Sir
It was with eager anticipation that I read Speaker Khumalo’s interview with the Courier a few weeks ago.
He made a lot of sense and made lot of promises that I certainly hope he can fulfill. Personally, I do not think he can. Not that he is a bad guy.
It is just that the ANC has systematically looted every municipality in the country it has taken over.
Tenders go to friends, family – salaries soak up the budget, as do the platoons of security guards who are there to ensure the looters keep in power. At the end of the day, there is only about R1 000 left to put a bit of sand in the growing potholes.
Come elections, promises are vague, and T-shirts and fried chicken handed out to the desperate who again vote in the same crowd.
The IFP is no better. The last lot successfully plundered Endumeni – wrecked a once proud town – into the ground.
Embarrassing to say the least were the shenanigans of the last Mayor and his lot. But there are no consequences. Those who plundered are shipped out to the District Municipality where the chances of an even bigger loot wait.
Others simply jump to the next political party – and that party, whose members previously severely criticised that same person for many misdeeds, welcomes them with open arms to their party. Talk about double standards.
This cowboy town is lawless. Drag racers take over the streets, back firing vehicles roar around all night without any law and order chasing them, all night parties keep rate payers awake.
There was even human k*k outside the Post Office the other day (great for tourism, Pam McFadden?) – we can see that this town, like so many others, is on the brink of a complete breakdown.
The police could not be bothered with what they see as minor issues such as described above and simply blame the municipality – who we know – simply do not have the passion, wherewithal or anything else to change things.
