LETTER – ‘Do not only pay lip service to service delivery’

People need to work together in these small towns and not just pay lip service to that lofty term, service delivery

Sir
We were glad to find a high-powered delegation of DA politicians in Glencoe last week as the town gears up for both the national elections on Wednesday and a Ward 7 by-election in June.

There are many issues in Glencoe. It is important that the incumbent understands the budget and how best the money should be spent to benefit the community rather than political pals.

If one looks at the roads, these are in dire condition. Biggar Street North is being repaired just before the election. Clever move.

But many roads in the suburbs are terrible. In Park Street, for instance, grass has ‘invaded’ the tar because there is no maintenance. If one is a Councillor you must be constantly observing where the town can be improved. There is also the issue of indigent families who cannot afford to pay service charges. Work must be done to approach these families and assist them in some manner – perhaps by wiping out their debt (which they will never manage to pay off) or visit them and see what the issues are.

People need to work together in these small towns and not just pay lip service to that lofty term, service delivery.

Let’s hope the change is real.
