Sir – The shocking drug-related shootings over the past week and the comments that came after this have prompted me to put pen to paper. It is indicative of great societal ills when drug lords are celebrated as kings. Of course, two wrongs can never make a right but when does good finally out do bad? Why have the lines between right and wrong become so blurred?
Why are drug lords allowed to operate in this small town seemingly without any fear of punitive measures? The ordinary resident gets harassed for TV license payments, rates and the ever-looming fear of having their electricity cut off as they are unable to pay their bills.
The main reason, I feel, is that people are scared to get involved. It is easy to be a Rambo with your bullet proof vest or a keyboard warrior, happily ensconced in your home with a hot cup of coffee and rusk, diligently bashing out morality sermons on social media. But when it counts, who is there? No one.
So evil flourishes when good men do nothing.
Brian
