Beware of job scams in our crumbling economy

I was unhappy to see our community "played" by crooks

Editor –

I wish to send a warning to our brothers and sisters about job scams.
I was unhappy to see our community “played” by crooks on August 26. A few community members approached me to intervene.

I received plenty of calls from those who claim they were contacted by Correctional Service Department employees, who asked them to transfer R1500 using the electronic funds transfer method. After sending this amount, they would supposedly follow up about the size of a uniform and then the job seeker must bring their identity documents to get a job.

In Estcourt, our mother body factories are shutting down.

Thousands of people lost their jobs because of our government. Before the elections, government promised six million jobs. However, shops and other businesses close daily. I approached the municipality to intervene and asked government departments like Agriculture, Labour as well as the National Youth Development Agency and local factories to help the people of Estcourt to provide the skills we need.

I wish that the whole community could come together and be united to build a better town and improve the economy for everyone.
