Straight talk for Estcourt residents

'Let it be known that failure on the part of council to co-operate will mean taking drastic action,'

Editor –
Why are you so passive and frightened?  Why do you blow hot air, but do not confront the powers that be?  To save what little is left of this once Queen of the Midlands, we need everyone, not a handful, to work collectively.

As a start, the Ratepayers Association, as a platform and recognised organisation to hear our grievances, needs to convene a meeting of all sectors of the community.

Why not invite our ward councillor to report on achievements, the council officials, top-paying ratepayers, etc? The council must know that the intention is to work in a spirit of co-operation.

In the same breath, let it be known that failure on the part of council to co-operate will mean taking drastic action; writing to Cogta and the Public Protector, marching to council and even defaulting officials out of office and withholding payments.

To the Ratepayers Association, you need to get your house in order. As a start, a public meeting with council officials and thereafter regular monthly meetings to which the community / ratepayers will be invited. This will help to ‘activate’ our passive community.

Finally, if you remain passive and do not take action, you will pay the price.
