Madam – Compliments on the season to all of you at the Newcastle Advertiser and wishing you and your teams a wonderful 2020. We enjoyed a relatively calm Christmas and New Year with minimal reports of tragedy compared to other years.
I hope this means people have been more responsible in their behavior, and if this is the case, I pray this continues throughout the year.
My resolution for 2020 is to try to always find a positive aspect to everything that seems negative, both in my personal capacity and in business. The last year was a very tough one for the town in my opinion.

We seemed to have no answers as to whatever was happening at the municipality and there was so much anger and resentment and confusion that the entire year passed in a blur of anger.
Apart from sky-high rates and Eskom’s threats to shut off our power, it was most definitely a year of negativity.
I know it’s still very early in the year, but I sincerely hope the people in charge will leave that bad cloud of uncertainty behind them, wipe the slate clean and commit to the people who really matter – the residents of Newcastle, who have chosen this town to set down roots and invest in the economy.
I have travelled to many places across the globe, and I always feel the pull to come back to my hometown after a while.
There is something magical and special about Newcastle, that will never be tainted no matter how much it seems like the town is falling apart.
This year, my fellow residents, no matter how bad things get, remember that Newcastle is home. Invest in this town, and it will eventually invest in you.
