Tribute to the late Mrs Swanithra Ramluckan

She more-than-often braved the odds and elements to serve those who needed her

Editor –

When people pass away, they are missed by those closest to them. When my mom passed away, she left a deep void within her family, friends and acquaintances. The hall, which was packed to capacity, bore testimony to her popularity in the community.

My mom gave meaning to the word “stalwart”. She was indeed loyal, reliable and hardworking until the end. Mom was a resilient woman with a discerning spirit. She more-than-often braved the odds and elements to serve those who needed her.

She was a nurturing sister, a respectable daughter-in-law, a devoted mother, and doting grand and great grandmother. Mom had a great sense of humour, which I was blessed to enjoy.

Her motto was: “Greater are the hands that serve than the lips that pray.” My mother undoubtedly paid her dues in her services to both family and friends.

She was an excellent cook and baker. Many remember her for the sumptuous foods she painstakingly prepared. Nobody left her home hungry, irrespective of the time.
At an early age, she was widowed and single-handedly raised Krivashin and I. We never lacked love and / or attention. She fiercely protected us and spoilt us tremendously. She ensured that we never missed our dad too much because she meticulously filled that gap.

We loved our mother until death came like a thief in the wee hours of that horrid day and stole her from us, leaving us shattered.

Mom passed on, but my soul died with her and every day a part of me dies just yearning for her.
Mom is survived by Krivashin and I; grandchildren Uren, Delano and Ashlesha Bugwandeen; Arushka and James Seeliger; and Jennysha Pitamber; four great grandchildren, three sisters and Aunty Maggie; her in-laws and a host of family and friends.

I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to Aroon Bugwandeen for hosting mom’s funeral / ceremonies and being her best friend; my aunt Mrs Suraji Omarduth for her support, guidance and assistance during this trying time; and every single person who contributed in any which way during this time. Thank you.

Rest in peace, Mom. Our shoulders droop with the heaviness of your loss and our hearts cry silently, but we will meet again in time.

Thank you for being the best of the best. May your journey be easy, peaceful and full of God’s mercy. May you be blessed with the best place in Heaven. You have gained your angel wings after a race well run. I love you eternally.

Your Child Naasha
