Stop pointing fingers at people and making them targets for gossip

‘I do not have the coronavirus’ says local plagued by rumours

Baseless allegations of coronavirus torment family

It really disappoints me that the Estcourt community has this kind of mindset. I can only imagine what Monica Sewram and her family have been put through, especially in a small town where untruths spread faster than a virus.

It is very sad that when the world is in a precarious situation with the coronavirus, we have people who are spreading lies and making the situation unbearable for others. What joy do they get from it? Do they know they can be criminally charged for spreading such vicious rumours?

In this trying time we are going through, with the lockdown and increasing number of infections, this is a time when we should be standing together, not so?

We need to rely on each other to get through this; we cannot be splitting the community apart. We all have a collective role to play to #flattenthecurve and everyone should take this seriously.

Let’s stop this vicious cycle of gossip and rumours, and rather reach out to each other and help. Stop pointing fingers at people and making them targets for gossip.

We live in a small community and supporting each other should be a priority.
