ESTCOURT: Livestock in town causes danger for motorists

In the past month, the number of animals on the road has definitely increased; it is very unsafe

Editor –

The goats, cattle and other animals that are roaming around in the streets are extremely dangerous!

I say this because I almost knocked over a cow while driving up the Forderville Hill last week.

One cannot see the animals that are crossing at the top, and obviously one is driving at a higher speed to ascend the hill.

It was a nerve-wrecking experience and I’m sure that if something is not done soon to stop these animals from walking and grazing all over the place, there will be a huge accident. I have even spotted herds of livestock on the R103, where there is a higher volume of traffic and an even larger risk of an accident.

I saw in the Estcourt News recently that the municipality intends taking the matter to Council. I wonder how long this will take and how soon afterwards will the resolutions be implemented.

I plead with the herdsmen and owners of the animals to be considerate when allowing your animals to roam all over, as they may end up getting stolen, hurt or even killed.
