Gender no matter to bowlers

The Mixed Pairs Championships were hosted in Harrismith last weekend.

Burnt End

Locals bowled their way to the top at last weekend’s KwaZulu-Natal Country Bowls Mixed Pairs Play-offs in Harrismith.

The winners and runners-up of the Midlands, Northerns and Zululand zones made up the field.

Each team played against each other in a round-robin format, and after five rounds of closely contested play, the winners were John Douthwaite and Noela Dreyer (Vryheid) on eight points + 30.

They were closely followed by:

Mike Bowman and Cheryl Coetzee of Eshowe (5 – 7); Graeme and Barbara Elworthy of Klipbank (5 – 29); Hogart and Hanna Gevers of Vryheid (4 + 30); Barry Mutlow and Ronel Greef of Richards Bay (4 – 10); Barbara and Oscar Baleri of Ladysmith (4 – 15).

Easter Tournament

The annual Newcastle Easter Tournament will be held this Saturday and Sunday (April 19 and 20).

Please note the greens will not be open for play on Easter Friday or Easter Monday, but the club will be open on Friday afternoon to welcome the visitors.

Members are requested to assist the club by providing a plate of eats for either Saturday or Sunday.

Members must also take note of the Novice Singles competition, for bowlers who have been playing for three years or less and have not won the competition before, which will now be played on April 26 and 27.

The venue of the Senior Fours competition on May 3 and 4 has been changed from Dundee to Vryheid.
