Stella ran riot against Sporting FC on Sunday, in another thrilling NSSL encounter.
During the next round of the Newcastle Social Soccer League, the oldest soccer club in town in Stella, opened the scoring tally despite finding itself under pressure from a game opposition.
Sporting heaped on the pressure to allow for the equaliser, but it was in vain.
As the second half ticked on, Stella made Sporting’s goal pointless with a furious attack, taking the full time score to three-one.
Later, Amahlubi sought to stake its claim against stalwart team, Al-Ahly.
In what management and players both described as a passionate match, Amahlubi signalled its intent to wrest the title from older clubs, sinking three goals to Al-Ahly’s one.
Spartans found a difficult opposition in Fairleigh United.
Despite netting three goals in the intense first half, Fairleigh managed to hit back three times, although two more to Spartans saw the final score sitting at five-three.
This exciting encounter was the last for the weekend.
Next Sunday, Amahlubi faces Santos at 1pm, Al-Ahly takes on Fairleigh United and Sporting hopes to peg one back against a fired-up Spartans.
