WITH the Kennedy Cup 40 over league coming closer to an end, two matches were played last Sunday.
At Cecil Emmett, Mr X won the toss and elected to bat against the Gladiators. They scored a good 275/7 in their 40 overs with Duvan Grobbelaar scoring a commanding 122 and Freedom Buthelezi scoring 87. Gladiators’ best bowlers were Andrew Vorster (8-0-50-3) and Thulani Zondo (8-2-36-2).

Freedom Buthelezi, with ball in hand, cleaned up the Gladiators top order and they were all bundled out for 64 inside 24 overs. Freedom ended with the figures 8-5-4-5. Matthew Stride also bowled well taking 2 wickets for 5 runs in his 4 overs. Mr X won by 211 runs.

The other match was contested in Dumbe. Wicket Wasps lost the toss and were sent into bat by Dumbe. In their 40 overs they managed to score 239/6, with Andrew Brooks (66) and Ashley van den Heever (60 not out) top scoring. Leon Solms (8-0-38-3) and Rupert Beneke (7-3-41-2) were Dumbe’s best bowlers.
A fine 183 run second wicket partnership between Carlo Hambrock (106) and Anton Beneke (75) saw Dumbe win the match comfortably in the 38th over. The best bowlers for Wicket Wasps were Andrew Brooks (7-1-18-2) and Connor High (7-0-41-1). Dumbe won by 5 wickets.

This Sunday’s fixtures are as follows: Wicket Wasps will face Gladiators at Cecil Emmett Park and Mr X will travel to Dumbe. The matches start at 10:30am.
