Hungry for the win
Kitted out from head to toe, teams from Pool A and B played their first matches at 9am.
Skill, footwork and feint passes were the order of the day as netball teams from across Northern KwaZulu-Natal battled it out for first place on February 20.
Ferrum High School hosted a tournament for u/16 and first girls’ teams, in an effort to promote sportsmanship and healthy competition among high school players.
The participating schools included Dundee, Ferrum, Pionier, Vryheid, Sarel Cilliers, and Newcastle High.
“The aim of the event is bring schools together who don’t always have an opportunity to compete,” said owner of Panarottis Newcastle, Francois Gouws. “It’s all about having fun.”

After thrills, spills and much anticipation, the tournament drew to a close just after 2pm.
Pionier High School’s u/16 team were crowned the winners in the category, beating out local teams for the top spot.
Panarottis Newcastle shelled out R5 000 for the winners of the face-off, and also provided vouchers and refreshments to officials.
In the end, there could only be one. Ferrum High School’s first team gave it their all on the court, and walked away victorious.
“A huge thank you to Panarottis Newcastle,” said Head of Sport at Ferrum, Charmaine Myburgh.
In conclusion, the school thanked Spur and the participating teams for their contributions to the overall success of the event.
