The event reeled in 499 anglers from Newcastle and neighbouring towns, all determined to catch the biggest fish.

Debbie Robson caught the heaviest carp, weighing in at 3.720 kilograms. Mrs Robson’s catch saw her take first place in the competition and she walked away with R25 000.

The winner of the heaviest barbel, which weighed a staggering 11.170kg, was Seelan Gounden. He won R10 000 for this whopper.

Organisers of the event would like thank all sponsors and anglers who made the day possible.
