A number of Newcastle bowlers, selected to represent numerous KwaZulu-Natal Country Bowls District teams, travelled to Margate last weekend to participate in the annual Quadrangular Tournament between the four bowling districts: Port Natal, Natal Inland, Kingfisher and KZNCB.

The men’s teams did exceptionally well, with the Provincial B team and the President’s team finishing first in their respective sections, the Seniors team second and the A team third, finishing second overall, only seven points behind the winners, Port Natal.

The ladies’ President’s and Senior teams fared best of their teams, finishing third in their sections.

The Quadrangular is used as an ideal warm-up for the Provincials to be held in April, and considering this is the first time most of the KZNCB teams have played together, there is a lot to look forward to.

On the local front, the monthly FedAuto meat competition last Saturday was won by Roger Jackets, Graham Robinson and Trevor Vincent, with Trevor Moore, Simon Ball and Jean Ball the runners-up.

The KZNCB under-25 trials will be hosted by Newcastle Bowling Club this Saturday, at 9am.

Club members are requested to avail themselves to play against these young players on Saturday morning and afternoon.

If sufficient members are available, they need only play in either the morning or afternoon session.

The last round of the FedAuto Business League has been brought forward to March 10, with the finals now to be played on March 17 – this to accommodate the school holidays.
