CRICKET: Amajuba defeats Dundee
Dundee won the toss and decided to bat first, with Woesie Bruyns dominating the first eight overs of the game, securing a relatively high score for Dundee.
Newcastle District Cricket Association (NDCA) saw Amajuba play its last KZN Inland Promotional League fixture on Sunday, December 3, when the team faced Dundee at the Paradise Sports Grounds.
Dundee won the toss and decided to bat first, with Woesie Bruyns dominating the first eight overs of the game, securing a relatively high score for Dundee.
However, Elmar Gouws from Amajuba managed to bowl Bruyn out, but not before he had 37 runs on the scoreboard.
Bruyn’s dismissal started a massive collapse in Dundee’s ranks, as Chris Ewart, Mohammed Moola and Renesh Harbhajan swung the game towards the Amajuba side with their excellent bowling.
Johan Ferreira, who played in his last match before relocating to Cape Town, came into the attack after Ewart injured himself.
He took the final two wickets, leaving Dundee having to settle for 158 runs.

Amajuba’s chase started badly, losing Henri Linde for only two runs, and then Sajid Gori for nine runs, but a third wicket stand of 31 runs between Harbhajan and Ewart salvaged the match for Amajuba.
Ewart was finally bowled out for 13 runs, while Harbhajan was out for 40 runs being caught trying to clear the boundaries.
Quentin Ferreira was out for 10 runs, but the partnership of Mohammed Moola and Johan Ferreira steadied the ship.
At 149 runs for five wickets and only 10 runs needed for victory, Moola sadly lost his wicket for 37 runs.
Ferreira finished the game in style, scoring the winning runs in the 37th over, ensuring a victory for Amajuba by one wicket.
The Newcastle Mall Kestrels are taking massive strides in the Pietermaritzburg Premier League this season.
The team faced Greytown at the Carter Grounds, where another win would keep it in the top half of the league table.
Greytown batted first and only scored 98 runs, as it was restricted by the spin bowling attack of Arslan Butt and Ashvik Dheena of Kestrels.

Chasing the run total set by Greytown proved to be tricky in the early part of the match, as the Newcastle Mall Kestrels lost Arshad Desai, Arslan Butt and Braeden Coetzee all for ducks, and Sohail Gori with only two runs to his names.
Hussain Essop proved to be the game changer, as he fought back with an unbeaten 70 runs from 45 balls, that included eight fours and four sixes.
Victory was secured in the 14th over, as Essop and Brandon Rossol took the Kestrels to an impressive six wicket win.
The Newcastle Mall Kestrels have to date beaten Masibemunye, Cosmos and Greytown, while only losing to Maritzburg Cricket Club and Zingari.
