Zim Stars dominate Spartans during RBCA Chartered Accountant Super League

The RBCA Chartered Accountant Super League continued this past Sunday with high-adrenaline football.

The Zim Stars and Spartans got the ball rolling. Zim Stars started like a house on fire, with the Spartan defence in disarray.

It came as no surprise when Zim Stars took the lead with a quick counterattack that started from a Spartans corner.

Alois broke down the right wing at lightning pace to set up Kadjunge who duly scored. Zim Stars continued to pile on the pressure and scored a second goal with Tunga driving home a scorcher of a shot.

In the second half, the Spartans played a more composed game and Zim Stars began to relax. As a result, Spartans caught the defence napping with Clydie playing a sweet cross for Miguel to tap the ball into the empty net.

This gave the Spartans a moral boost, and they searched for the equaliser. The equaliser did come from Malik, who seemed to be Spartan’s saviour.

With the scores level, it seemed that Spartans were going to settle for a point but Zim Stars stole all three points when a poor goal kick landed at the feet of Davy, who threaded a clinical pass to Kadjunge, who scored, sending the Zim Stars fans into ecstasy.

In the curtain-raiser game between the old crocks, the Newcastle Legends took on the Osizweni Masters. Both teams played fantastic football that lacked pace but made up for it with an assortment of quality on display.

Legends seemed to have the game in the bag, leading 3-1, but Osizweni came back to draw the game 3-3.

In the late game, Fairleigh United took on the Newcastle Legends. In a fierce battle, both teams played great attacking football.

Newcastle Legends were solid in defence, while Fairleigh were fierce in attack. Football can be cruel at times, and as Fairleigh United attacked, Legends caught them on a counterattack, with Dr. Gregory Maistry setting up Osama Juma who put the ball into the net

Legends continued to play a more defensive game, while Fairleigh United opted to continue for attacking football. In the second half, Fairleigh United introduced some fresh legs in attack and opted to play with three strikers.

This really added stress to the Legends back line, but also created gaps in the Fairleigh midfield and defence.

Legends suddenly introduced wingers Caleb Maistry and Mikyle Uchee, the latter a young 18-year-old whose blistering pace troubled the Fairleigh right flank. Legends soon found Mikyle in space, whose pass found Habib, who scored.

This was the final nail in Fairleigh United’s coffin.

Newcastle Legends are on top of the RBCA Chartered Accountant Super League, but are closely chased by Park United, Spartans, and Zim Stars, with Munawarah and Fairleigh United at the wrong end of the log.

The RBCA Chartered Accountant Super League will continue this Sunday at Fernwood Sports Grounds as follows:

  • 14:00: Spartans vs. Park United
  • 15:30: Zim Stars vs. Fairleigh United

This coming Saturday, the Newcastle Legends and over 40 other teams will travel to Ladysmith to play against Dundee, Ladysmith, and Estcourt.

RBCA Chartered Accountant owner, Rishaal Badhripersadh, is very impressed with the way the Newcastle Social Soccer League is being run and would like more teams to join.

Mr. Badhripersadh added that this is his effort to get the community involved in positive activities ‘rather than to have people found in the wrong places.’

RBCA Chartered Accountants, together with the Newcastle Social Soccer League, are setting the benchmark for football in Newcastle.
