Richards Bay women prove their mettle on the bowling greens

The KZNCB Presidents Cup then followed on Saturday and Sunday with the proposed teams selected for the 2024 Inter District and Quadrangular tournaments playing against each other before the announcement of the final selections

Newcastle Bowling Club was a hive of activity last weekend with the hosting of two major KwaZulu-Natal Country Bowls competitions.

The playoffs for the District pairs was held on Thursday and Friday with the winners of both the men’s and women’s sections only being decided after the last game.

The women’s section was won by Eunice Duvenage and Hannelie Erasmus (Richards Bay – 12+36) with the runners up spot going to Odette Allen and Essell Schoeman (Richards Bay – 9 + 17) after a count out against Newcastle Michelle Steele and Nancy Steyn who narrowly missed out by one shot (9 + 16)!

The mens’s section was won by the young team of David Nel and Adrian Bookless (The Nest BC – 13 + 35) with their fellow club members, Theuns Fraser and Jimmy Nel, the runners up on 10 + 13.

The KZNCB Presidents Cup then followed on Saturday and Sunday with the proposed teams selected for the 2024 Inter District and Quadrangular tournaments playing against each other before the announcement of the final selections.

Some excellent, and some indifferent, bowls was witnessed in trying conditions with the extreme heat and blustery winds not making it easy for the players.

President Monty Steele and his band of club members were all willing to lend a hand and are to be congratulated on, once again, ensuring that Newcastle Bowing Club hosted another successful District bowling tournament.
