RBCA Super League again serves up nail biting football

With time running out, Fairleigh United got the win with a 'Siphesihle' shot.

The RBCA Chartered Accountant Super League officially kicked off this past Sunday which had players and fans buzzing at the Fernwood soccer field.

Newcastle Legends and Munawarah got the ball rolling.

Both teams played great football, and although Munawarah created the early pressure, the Legend’s defence was up to the task.

The evenly matched first half ended goalless. In the second half, Legends took the lead through Salim Issah.

Munawarah piled on the pressure and drew level when Haji attempted a shot at goal that took a cruel deflection off a Legends defender to end up in the goal.

Mustafa scored the winning goal for Munawarah when the midfield left the Legends’ defence exposed.

  • High-octane game

In the next high-octane game, Zim Stars took on 11 Hammers.

Zim Stars got off to a cracking start, with Roy scoring two quick goals.

The Zim Stars dictated the pace of the game. However, in the second half, the Hammers made a few changes and found a ray of hope when Salim scored early on.

The Hammers began to slowly claw their way back into the game.

But Zim Stars’ coach, Desmond, was onto the Hammers game plan and made a few changes of his own.

The changes motivated Zim Star and they scored another two goals.

The Hammers were pinned back but managed to get a second goal but Zim Stars ran out 4-2 winners.

Next up was The City of Refuge taking on Fairleigh United, with both teams missing key players.

It was COR that took the lead through Tehrell Uchee.

Fairleigh United searched for a goal but found it difficult to transition from defensive mode to attack mode.

Seeing his team struggling, coach Raphael changed his formation, and immediately Fairleigh United scored from a Lezhanray rocket.

  • Pushing for a winner

In the second half, both teams pushed for the winner, with COR missing some glorious opportunities.

With time running out, Fairleigh United got the win with a ‘Siphesihle’ shot.

Fairleigh United held on to walk away 2-1 winners.

The match saw the Spartans taking on Hellenic.

In a fast-paced display of skill and physical strength, both teams put on a show that had the fans biting their nails.

Hellenic missed some great chances, but it was the Spartans that took the lead early in the second half through Pro Brown.

Hellenic continued to apply pressure but the Spartans caught them on the counter to get the second goal – thus running out 2-0 winners.
