It has been confirmed that Estcourt soccer club Gqom Gang FC are the champions of the SAFA Uthukela Hollywoodbets Regional League. This follows the resolution of a dispute regarding the top position on the log, caused by the expulsion of Green Mamba FC from the league.

Lindo Mdakane from Gqom Gang explained that, according to league rules, if a team is expelled, all points gained by other teams against that expelled team are deducted.

Initially, Ladysmith Juventus were at the top of the log, with Gqom Gang FC in second place. However, because Juventus had previously beaten Green Mamba FC and earned three points, those points were deducted. Gqom Gang had drawn with Green Mamba and had earned one point, so only one point was deducted from their total.

As a result, Gqom Gang FC moved to the top of the log with 77 points, one point ahead of Ladysmith Juventus, who ended with 76.

The SAFA KZN Provincial Office then issued a ruling in favour of Gqom Gang, officially declaring them league champions. The SAFA KZN Office is expected to present the championship trophy to Gqom Gang next week at Lambert Park.

Ladysmith Juventus released a statement accepting the decision and congratulating Gqom Gang. “We wish to congratulate Gqom Gang FC for being crowned champions of our regional league. We wish them all the best as they represent our region in the upcoming playoffs.”

Gqom Gang will now represent the uThukela region in the upcoming KZN Hollywoodbets Regional League Provincial Playoffs, taking place on the South Coast from June 13.

Mdakane expressed gratitude to the team managers, sponsors and supporters. He also mentioned that the club is considering arranging buses for fans to accompany the team to the South Coast.
