This year, the school joined hands with our annual André Fourie Tournament – held in loving memory of one of our most dedicated rugby coaches, SGB member, and school supporter who passed away in 2023.
Combined with Ferrum’s 50th celebrations, the festival was about more than entertainment – it was about building school spirit and bringing our broader community together.
Months of careful preparation went into making the event a success – from securing guest artists and arranging vendors, to coordinating sports fixtures, setting up the art exhibition, and ensuring that logistics such as sound, lighting, catering, and security were all in place.
Teams of staff, parents, and learners worked hand-in-hand to bring it all together.
The festival forms part of Ferrum High School’s fundraising efforts to raise much-needed funds for the school.
Proceeds go toward closing gaps in facilities, equipment, and creating greater opportunities for our learners. The float parade on Friday was a standout moment.
The way the community showed their love and support as we travelled through town – especially the cheering from the primary school learners – set the tone for the whole weekend.
Other highlights included the energy of our amazing guest artists, the wide variety of stalls, and the enthusiastic participation from schools both on stage and on the sports fields.
Seeing learners shine in so many different areas was truly special.
A heartfelt thank you to our incredible sponsors and parents, who stepped in and made the festival possible – we could not have done it without them.
This year’s festival stood out as part of our 50th birthday celebrations and through its connection with the André Fourie Sports Tournament.
The exciting line-up of guest performers, the addition of the art gallery exhibition, and the way the community rallied together – even through challenging weather – made the event truly memorable.
The biggest challenge was the unexpected rain, which arrived during Jo Black’s performance.
Thankfully, the concert was already underway, and the atmosphere electric. Unfortunately, it did mean that George Town could not perform.
We will, however, make every effort to bring them back to Newcastle in the near future.
While the weather was unforeseen, our team was ready for anything, and together we kept the festival spirit alive.
